All good stories have to start somewhere, and today is the beginning of the telling of Milly's Story. Milly is short for Milagro, his Spanish name given to him by an owner that ran his life for 18 years. Milagro in spanish translates to Miracle. Who would have know all those years ago, the name given to this sweet and amazing creature would dictate his fate.
Today I would like to introduce you to Milly. Tell you that he has changed my life in ways I could not imagine and let you know that his very own life of hardship has made him the very special boy that he is today. Milly is a survivor. It is not something that he was taught, its part of who he is. His journey was difficult, but he looks at life from the perspective of a second chance. Everyone deserves a second chance. Milly took his and has shown us all what it means to leave the past behind you and get up with your giddy on.
Milly and I live in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, which lies on the tip of the Baja Peninsula. Cabo made it mark on the map by being a World Class fishing destination and has since become a top rated vacation destination. This tropical local draws celebrities, cruise ships, and people from all walks of life who come to enjoy the beautiful weather, a cold cerveza and take a swim in our glorious beaches. Cabo is all about fun, rest and relaxation! But unfortunately there is a very real and sometimes hard truth to life South of the Border. My Milly lived that truth.
Some fun tid bits of information for you to know about Milly is that he is approximately 18 years old. We learned this recently when he had a vet check and probably his only teeth cleaning, or floating at we call it, in those entire 18 years. The vet told us his age and we were all shocked! Milly has the youngest and brightest eyes and expression in the barn. I think it must be his soul looking at us after his rebirth if you will. The horse came a nose length from dying. His facial expressions mark the strength and perseverance that can only come from an animal that has walked in his horseshoes. His beautiful, graceful soul shines through his eyes with an enthusiasm and honesty that makes your heart swell with gratitude and love.
Milly is a Chestnut with two perfectly matched rear white socks. He has a beautifully shaped thick white blaze on his face that runs straight down to his velvety soft muzzle. A muzzle that receives kisses daily! He perks his ears with every peck on the nose, and he inhales your scent in a way that makes you think he's smelling an aromatic flower. He's just breathing in the love, love that he has likely never received how whole life. He has a long, thick tale that is a flaxen roan color with hints of white. It reminds me of the color of a beating heart, with rich tones of red and purple.
Milly's mane is medium in length and shines like a copper penny. And his forelock, well its yet to be seen! Having almost no forelock makes him look like a youngster. This Cabo Horse just seems to have that fountain of youth! Maybe its the latitude.
I bought him his very own halter not too long ago. A citron green that looks so handsome. And a rainbow colored lead rope too. Some of the girls got a snicker out of it at the barn, but if any horse deserves a rainbow lead rope it would be Milly. Somewhere under a rainbow this amazing boy found his Miracle. And to me, this shiny penny is every bit the best pot of gold I could ever stumble upon.
I hope that you will follow along with us as we share our story. All the things that brought us to the present moment, and the places yet to be traveled along the trail of life. It has been a wonderful journey of hope, friendship and fate.
